Chapter 2: Traversing the cityscape: locating age-friendly, age inclusion and age equity

In this week we are covering Chapter 2, Traversing the cityscape: locating age-friendly, age inclusion and age equity, authored by Tamara Daly and Tesia Wood.

This chapter takes a deep dive into global ageing and health paradigms—the ideas and assumptions that influence everything from public policy and social programs to the types of care older adults receive in their everyday lives.
Using scoping review methods, our authors see growing emphasis on individual responsibility for aging well—think healthy lifestyles, financial preparedness, and personal resilience—paired with a continued focus on state-led strategies designed to create environments where people can age with dignity and support. The authors highlight an important gap: current policies and scholarship still don’t fully address the realities of culturally, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse older adults.

In other words, while progress is being made, the systems guiding how we age are not yet equipped to support everyone fairly.
